Not real. Look at the feathering round the edge of the grub – it looks out of focus because it has been softened in photoshop to make it easier to blend into the background. The shadow on the dude’s hand also looks unconvincing (doesn’t fit properly with the contour of his flesh – under the grub’s head end his hand looks concave) and the tail and of the beasty looks superimposed because there’s something subtly wrong with the lighting.

The worlds largest insect to date is the African Goliath Beetle (Goliathus) which during L3 is I believe the largest grub in the world.

It does not even approach that things apparent weight or length.

If it is real how about some citation/explanation/location and some other photos?

It’s photo shopped.
I’m a graphic artist, and this has all the tell tale signs of a shop. Whoever did it isn’t bad, but should have contracted the grub layer, this would have eliminated the feathered blur look on the outside of the grub.

I call shenanigans on this one. It’s been shooped. One, it’s not a caterpillar (it’s a grub) and two they messed up the feathering around the edges. That’s usually the one thing that always throws off a good shooping is nasty edges. It looks like the got lazy in some places and either feathered too much or just used the blur tool which makes it like a neon sign against the rest of the things that are in focus.
